Coraline (Jingyan) Weng
Coraline (Jingyan) Weng’s artistic practice investigates the intersections of urban cohesion, group psychology, and the transformative effects of digital expansion within mainland China. Drawing from her background in environmental design, Weng enriches her exploration of how collective social dynamics influence individual identity, culture, memory, and trauma. Her work often takes shape through the collage of objects, repurposed digital imagery, and immersive installations that challenge perceptions of space and context. While her practice spans sound, video, and the integration of food, sculpture remains her preferred medium. The material versatility, structural potential, and spatial permanence—or impermanence—of sculpture provide an ideal vehicle for her self-expression. This medium also reflects her struggle to interpret the influence of her closely bound culture and government on her people, her identity, and her capacity to create art within a contemporary context.
Through her work, Weng offers a poignant reflection on the complexities of modern existence, using art as both a critical lens and a space for transformative engagement.
